Buenos Aires, Feb 23 (NA) – Marcelo Gallardo announced that the match this Thursday against Banfield for the sixth date of the Apertura Tournament will be his last as manager of River Plate, where he will conclude his very poor second cycle in that position.
Gallardo's second cycle at River began in the second half of 2024, following the departure of Martín Demichelis, who was harshly criticized by fans. Despite the hope generated by "Napoleon's" return, the team never functioned as it did in the first cycle, where he harvested countless titles and wrote the most glorious pages in the club's history.
According to the investigation by the Argentine News Agency, throughout his second period at the Núñez institution, Gallardo directed a total of 85 matches, in which he accumulated 35 wins, 32 draws, and 18 losses.
The final blow came this Sunday night, when they fell 1-0 to Vélez in Liniers, for the seventh date of the Apertura Tournament, where they are tenth in Zone B and are even out of the positions for qualification to the playoffs.
